Coffee with Thijs
At Hencon, we like to have a cup of coffee together. In ‘Coffee with’, we talk to a different colleague each time. This time it is the turn of Thijs Steentjes. Thijs joined Hencon last year in the after-sales and parts sales department.
How did you end up at Hencon?
‘A friend drew my attention to the vacancy at Hencon Forestry and that’s how it started rolling. Initially, it wasn’t very convenient to change jobs because we were in the middle of a renovation at home. This combined with a young family made for quite a hectic schedule. That’s why I thought the step was rather risky but there was a clear click from both sides and that was the deciding factor for me. So far, I have absolutely no regrets about my decision to change jobs.’
What makes working at Hencon fun for you?
Thijs stirs in his coffee. ‘For me, these are several facets. First of all, I really like the content of my job. I have a lot of customer contact and every day I get a technical question to which I don’t yet know the answer. Forestry machines are imposing and every part can be replaced. By figuring out the answer to the question, I learn something new every day. This way, step by step, I will get my product knowledge up to standard. Fortunately, my colleagues understand that I don’t know everything yet; no pressure is put on me. In addition, Hencon Forestry is a flat organisation, the atmosphere is very good and the right work-life balance is ensured.’
In what way do you get satisfaction from your work?
‘I like helping customers. When a customer needs a certain part, of course it has to be delivered quickly. We take care of that. The part is sent by overnight delivery so the customer can get on with their business as quickly as possible. Satisfied customers, that’s what I do it for!’
How do you see your future at Hencon?
‘Positive, I still need to acquire more technical knowledge but that will be fine. The most important thing is that I enjoy going to work every day. I hope to do my bit for a long time to come.’
Finally, how is the coffee?
Thijs laughs. ‘The coffee is good! Black without sugar.’
